RTP Maharashtra Mandal was initiated in 1986 by a few debonair, enterprising and dedicated Maharashtrians. The goal was to promote, preserve and cherish Maharashtrian culture across the seven seas. These pioneers faced formidable challenges to get the Mandal’s brand image established in the Research Triangle Park (RTP) area.

RTP Maharashtra Mandal celebrated its first program, Makar Sankrant, in 1986. It was welcomed by the community with open arms. After the stupendous success of the maiden venture, there was no turning back. Even today we are inspired by the same tradition, prestige and discipline that our founding fathers left behind.

Gradually as the zeal and number of members grew, we broadened our horizon to celebrate 6 events – Makar Sankrant, Holi, Vanbhojan (Picnic), Ganesh Chaturthi,Kojagiri and Diwali.

Being the true champions of our plush legacy we also invited renowned dignitaries like Sudhir Gadgil, Shireesh Kanekar, Sanjay Upadhey et al to entertain the Maharashtrian community in RTP.

In addition to this, zealots from the community are also involved in numerous extramural activities like: Independence Day Celebrations, HSNC Representation, enactment of professional plays by Rasik Rangmanch, Marathi classes at the Carolina Vidya Mandir, and cricket tournaments at the Triangle Cricket Club.

For any organization to progress it needs active participation, encouragement, support and enthusiasm from the community. If today, we’ve made our mark, it is only because we’ve been blessed with a spectacular group of members. Quoting Abraham Lincoln, we are indeed “government of the people, by the people, for the people”. It has indeed been our privilege serving you over these years.......
